USCDM recognized at the South Carolina vs. Missouri Football Game

Nov. 16 came as a day to remember for University of South Carolina (USCDM) and the greater Gamecock fan base alike. Embodying all that this year’s campaign theme, “Together For Tomorrow,” represents, the day demonstrated the power of community and the strength in numbers. It was during USC football’s matchup against the Missouri Tigers that USCDM and those who the organizations works each day to support observed just how many people stand behind them when recognized on the field.

The highly anticipated game day started with a tailgate where current USCDM members and alumni gathered, sparking camaraderie, unity and school spirit to set the tone for the events ahead. As the tight-knit USCDM community came together, all were reminded of the common goal shared throughout the organization, with recent graduates sharing how their passion for the cause remains strong. As USC students, alumni and community members gathered, they were reminded that every step taken, every dollar raised and every hour spent in service of others was a step forward in the fight for the health and well-being of children everywhere.

As Williams-Brice filled up with fans excited for a ranked showdown, USCDM’s executive board and three miracle families prepared to take the field where they would be recognized in front of a sold-out stadium. At the beginning of the second quarter, the group proudly walked out and was greeted by a sea of garnet and black cheering them on. At that moment, the Miracle Kids could feel the collective energy of tens of thousands of fans supporting them. They smiled and waved to a packed house, overwhelmed by the number of those standing beside them in their battle.

“I loved seeing our Miracle Kids and family members in their element by cheering on the Gamecocks! It was wonderful to share USCDM’s cause with thousands of fans alongside families who have been supported by our efforts. I'm so grateful Gamecock football gives us this opportunity each year because everyone had a blast sitting front row and being on the big screen,” USCDM President Mary Brooks Wilson said.

Such excitement on the field continued in the final seconds of the game. With 15 seconds remaining on the clock, a wave of hope surged through the crowd as senior running back Raheim “Rocket” Sanders sailed to the end zone to put the Gamecocks up 34-30. The finish ended with an explosion of cheers from the crowd in response to a true miracle on the field.

For USCDM, the victory came not just in the game but in the reminder that it had a big, supportive community that it could depend on and look to for encouragement. With that, the night was indeed one to celebrate having had a Gamecock victory, bringing together the USCDM community and the opportunity to share its mission on a grand stage. It was indeed a miracle on and off the field, which came as a source of motivation for members of USCDM to keep pushing ahead in its fight to change the future of children’s health.
